Ever since its creation, AER has promoted cultural diversity and supported the preservation of cultural expressions, goods and heritage.

Equally, AER has a long standing tradition in defending regional and minority languages and, amongst others, actively contributed to the creation of the European Bureau for Lesser Used Languages (EBLUL).

EU consultation on Multilinguism

In autumn 2007, the European Commission launched an online public consultation on Multilingualism in the EU. More than 2,000 contributions were received and will be used to adopt a "Communication on multilingualism" on September, 17th 2008, including "proposals for actions that further promote language learning and linguistic diversity, and address citizens' needs as efficiently as possible".
